Rutgers to Offer One-day Programs for Pharmaceutical Professionals

The Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy at Rutgers is offering three, one-day continuing education programs for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in March and April.

Immunization Update 2012-2013 will be held from 6 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., Thursday, March 14, at the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy on the Busch Campus. The program is geared toward professionals and offers 2.0 contact hours (.20 CEUs). Topics to be covered will include updates and current best practices for immunization-delivery. The fee is $35, which includes refreshments and materials. Immunization Update 2012-2013 is approved by the Florida Board of Pharmacy for professionals who are licensed in that state.

Pharmacy Compounding: Changing Laws Applied to a Traditional Art and 2013 Federal and New Jersey Pharmacy Law Update, will take place from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 16, at The Imperia Banquet Center in Somerset. This program offers 3.0 law contact hours (.30 LAW CEUs) for attendees. Topics include new and proposed Board of Pharmacy regulations, as well as legal issues arising from compounding activities. The fee is $120, which includes a continental breakfast and materials.

2013 Gastrointestinal Update will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.,Tuesday, April 9, at the Radisson Hotel in Piscataway. This program also offers 6.00 continuing education credits (.60 CEUs). The program will instruct professionals on recent advances and issues in gastroenterology. The $170 fee includes refreshments and materials. This program is also Florida Board Certified.

Pharmacists in New Jersey are required to take a minimum of 30 continuing education credits of which at least 10 must be obtained through didactic instruction (in-person, telephone or electronic), and three credits of pharmacy law applicable to pharmacy practice in New Jersey. Certified pharmacy technicians must participate in at least 20 hours of continuing education, including at least one hour of pharmacy law.
