Rutgers’ New Facility at Atlantic Cape to Welcome Students

Courtesy of Atlantic Cape Community College

As Susan and Ashley Rivenbark begin classes as new Rutgers students this month, they are among the first to walk through the doors of the university’s new Lifelong Learning Center on the campus of Atlantic Cape Community College in Mays Landing.

The Rivenbarks – mother and daughter – are starting the next phase of their college careers as students in Rutgers’ off-campus degree-completion program. Both received their associate’s degrees from Atlantic Cape last spring and were admitted to Rutgers’ program there. Susan plans to complete her bachelor’s degree in liberal studies and Ashley in psychology. They will be among 300 students projected to enroll at that site this fall.

As residents of nearby Hammonton, they see the new facility as a draw for other like-minded individuals wishing to complete their degrees.

“I think it will attract many new people like me from the area who are looking for a great opportunity closer to home,” said Ashley.

Chinese Delegation Examines Brookdale-Rutgers Partnership

A delegation from the Zhejiang College of Construction, Hangzhou, China, recently visited Rutgers' Off Campus Program at Brookdale Community College in Freehold to examine Rutgers' partnership with Brookdale.

LINCROFT, N.J. – New Brookdale Community College president Dr. Maureen Murphy welcomed an 18 member delegation of directors, deans and faculty from the Zhejiang College of Construction, Hangzhou, China, to the Lincroft main campus August 2.  The group also visited the Freehold Branch Campus to view the role of the community college and specifically the Brookdale-Rutgers partnership through which students holding associate’s degrees can earn a Rutgers degree at the Freehold location.

The visit to Brookdale focused on the delivery of academic and learning opportunities and how two year degree programs transfer to four year degrees. Brookdale professors Edward O’Neill and Mike Qaissaunee presented on Brookdale’s architecture, engineering and technology associate degree programs. A campus tour highlighting the classroom and laboratory facilities followed, led by Dr. Janice M. Thomas, the director of Brookdale’s International Education Center.
