Rutgers Coding Bootcamp Team Creates Cash Cache App that Counts Coins Quickly

Computer code on a screen

By Padraig Ryan

When it comes to loose change – the pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters that seem to multiply daily – most people throw it into some type of a container and vow to count it later. But the pile usually gets bigger, the jar becomes full and exactly how much money has been saved becomes a mystery.

“It’s something that everyone can relate to,” said Jeffrey Abraham, 27, of Livingston. “You empty your pockets, put the change aside and tell yourself that you’ll count it later.”

Rutgers Leadership Coach Finds His Hip-Hop Beat

Rutgers Leadership Coach Finds His Hip-Hop Beat

As a pharmaceutical industry leadership development professional, Bejoy Philip draws insights from a novel source – his alter ego, the rap artist named Wize.

After earning his bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, Philip lived the hip-hop dream, performing on weekends as Wize and producing five albums from 2006 to 2011. By day, he was a project manager and process engineer in the banking industry, but he found his avocation as a musician “almost was an alter ego.”

Philip lived in two worlds – until a move into leadership development enabled him to combine his two passions: inspiring others with words and music, and developing people and organizations in the business world.

Rutgers EMBA gave engineer a perspective that proved beneficial as he climbed company ranks

GREGORY SAUTER, A LICENSED PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER

Gregory Sauter, an executive with the engineering titan AECOM Technology Corp. and a Rutgers Executive MBA alumnus, is happy to talk about the non-traditional start of his career.

Sauter veered from tradition when he realized he couldn’t muster up any excitement for his college liberal arts courses. After his first year, he packed up his bags and returned home to forge a more challenging path into the future: With little to draw on except having helped his father fix things around the house and some summer jobs, he started a construction company of his own.

“I wasn’t inspired,” he said, recalling his decision to abandon college and start working on his own. “What interested me was working with my hands and creating something.”
