LINCROFT, N.J. – New Brookdale Community College president Dr. Maureen Murphy welcomed an 18 member delegation of directors, deans and faculty from the Zhejiang College of Construction, Hangzhou, China, to the Lincroft main campus August 2.  The group also visited the Freehold Branch Campus to view the role of the community college and specifically the Brookdale-Rutgers partnership through which students holding associate’s degrees can earn a Rutgers degree at the Freehold location.

The visit to Brookdale focused on the delivery of academic and learning opportunities and how two year degree programs transfer to four year degrees. Brookdale professors Edward O’Neill and Mike Qaissaunee presented on Brookdale’s architecture, engineering and technology associate degree programs. A campus tour highlighting the classroom and laboratory facilities followed, led by Dr. Janice M. Thomas, the director of Brookdale’s International Education Center.

There they participated in a certificate program focused on learning about university administration and issues pertaining to student affairs.

Through an interpreter, the leader of the delegation, Ms. Yun Zhou, Library Director and Associate Professor of Library Science, Zhejiang College of Construction, explained that their month long study tour would provide the participants from Zhejiang a better understanding the U.S. higher education system and the relationships between two and four year institutions.

The delegation’s U.S. tour began at Tufts University, Boston and after the visit to Rutgers and Brookdale, continues to Philadelphia and Washington DC. Their tour concludes at Washington State University, Bates Technical College and St. Martin’s University.
